LINEAX MOTOR COMMUTATION |
|
To make coherent extended motions over the fixed magnet array in the base, the current in the coils must be commutated, switched from forward to reverse. The brush-less 3-phase motors used in LINEAX systems are commutated electronically in the servo amplifier. Either a sinusoidal or six-step current waveform is used to control commutation profile. Hall Effect Devices (HEDs) are used as non-contacting positioning sensors to initialize the simple six-step control scheme. These devices are also used to facilitate initial sinusoidal motor phasing without requiring motion. For high precision positioning, NUTEC commutates the 3 coils with sinusoidal waveforms yielding 15% higher efficiency vs. six-step method, zero cogging, better positioning performance and better velocity control. For all high precision applications, the NUTEC standard is sinusoidal commutation. |
