LINEAR MOTORS

The linear motor drive concept is simple yet very effective. A three-phase coil assembly produces a variable magnetic field in proximity to the magnetic field of high flux permanent magnets, creating attractive and repulsive forces between the magnetized elements completely free of any physical contact. Force, velocity and position, are all observed and controlled electronically. Modulation of the current in the coils of the electro-magnets creates variable forces on the components to be positioned, without any mechanical transmission or contacting components. All motive force generated is in the direction of travel. Linear motors have very high inherent stiffness, consistent along the positioning axis and in the direction of travel. There are no Johnson-Euler column compliance issues. The linear motor eliminates backlash, wear and compliance between the motor and load. The standard motor used in the LINEAX series is an iron-core motor, with an ironless version as an option.
